Parallel to our public life we all live a private life, in which we safely tuck away our secrets and insecurities. In public situations we may come up with nifty solutions to hide what discomforts us, but it is those moments alone that are most confronting. Though we can hide even ourselves from many insecurities, there is no escape from bodily discontent. We can not avoid confrontation with our body on a regular base.
It is this what caught my interest when I created my first hair works ("Yearbook", "Personality Portraits"). Through hair, I explored self-image and self-expression to the outside world. Upon concluding a contradiction between the two, I delved deeper into the inner world of my subjects as well as my own. To do so I deepened my focus towards the thin line between self-consciousness and self-confidence.
In this regard my work consists of subjective matter. I like for there to be room for interpretation in my work. By utilising hair as a surrealist matter one can decide for themselves to either take the work lightheartedly or to shape it to their own ideas. Therefore when a work is finished it is no longer ‘mine’ conceptually.
