Örebro Örebro Konstskola is a two year long education and at the spring exhibition all students participate to show what they work with every year.
- "Yes, that is right. It is very much fun to work with it, for a few weeks now it has been very intense, we had neither time to eat food or to drink coffee" says Ulf Lernhammar, teacher. And the Konsthall is also pleased with the setup.
- "It is nice when they are here. It is usually a well-attended exhibition, partially because there are many relatives and friends who come to this kind of group exhibition and partially because many are interested in what happens at the local art school" says Jesper Blåder, curator at Örebro Konsthall.
For some of the students this is the second time they participate in the spring exhibition.
- "Second year students get a little more space for their art. But we have a very democratic proces at school for setting up student exhibitions" says Ulf Lernhammar.
Rio Drop and Martina Platzgummer, who have arranged the exhibition, explain that all students at the exhibition present two alternatives for the work they want to exhibit.
- "This year there have not been any broken hearts, in some way we have managed to get along with everyones first choice. Some even have both works" says Rio Drop, who herself exhibits work she has made out of human hair.
In total 32 students exhibit their art.
- "This year there are not so many paintings, there are more sculptures, installations, video's and text works" says Rio Drop, who believes it depends on which courses they had during the year, and if they had eyes on specific techniques that trend in the art world right now.
At the art school students have their own workspace where they can create their art and several of them worked on the exhibited work all year.
- "Now it is the challange to make everyone's art fit together, since there are so many different styles. But it has actually been better as I thought" says Rio Drop.
The trick, they reveal, is to find a balance between the colorful works and the works that are more colorless.
- "We dont want a part of the room to scream too much while neither want another part to be too calm.
It is however not the fist time the students exhibit together. Earlier this year they traveled to Berlin and arranged an exhibition at gallery Atelierhof Kreuzberg.
- "What is good about the school is that you get the opportunity to be so free in your work. Everyone is encouraged to have their own style, no idea is bad and we dare to try everything. The school has that mentality" says Martina Platzgummer.
- "It is a very good basic education and many in the school continue to study art at the university afterwards" agrees Rio Drop. For both of them the schooling has also been important for their personal development.
- "It is important to learn it's not dangerous to fail. You must work so close to yourself all the time, otherwise you can not make art" says Martina Platzgummer.
- In the background stands Rio Drop's art made out of human hair and on the floor lays Martina Platzgummer's work "Hemlängtan" which exists of a mat woven with a technique which is typical for Hälsingland and is called "slarvtjäll". The work also exists of bubble wrap.
- According to students Rio Drop and Martina Platzgummer their time at Örebro Konstskola has been developing, also for them personally.
- On a study trip to Berlin earlier last spring the students exhibited together for the first time, now they repeat exhibiting collectively with partially new work at Örebro Konsthall.
